Rosegarden invests in serving robots & cleaning machines
Rosegarden, the trendy restaurant chain focusing on Asian cuisine with a modern twist, is now taking another step into the future. With innovative serving robots and the new generation of scrubbing machines, they want to keep up with robot development and see an opportunity to be able to expand and refine their unique concept.
Rosegarden is one of the first nationwide chains to invest in smart technology in the form of innovative serving robots. The first tests took place at their restaurant in Jönköping, which together with 3 other restaurants is run by Vincent Ruckman, district manager at Rosegarden Region Mitt. Vincent has extensive experience in the restaurant industry and has worked at Rosegarden for 10 years, of which 5 years as district manager. He says that AI and robots are on the rise in the restaurant industry and that he sees more and more cafes, fast food restaurants and traditional restaurants taking an interest in the technology. For Vincent and his colleagues, this was something new and initially there was some skepticism, but the moment they tested the technology in their premises, they saw the benefits and the great opportunities to do something different to create engagement among customers and relieve staff.
In the restaurants, the serving robots follow the staff's instructions and collect the dishes that the guests put down, and then take them to the dish room. This saves time and relieves the staff at the same time as the robots create an extra service for the guests who can easily leave dishes during the buffet sessions to have an even more pleasant experience.
"We want to develop and keep up with the times and the trend with robots, when we tested we saw a value for the restaurant itself, benefit for the staff, but then also as marketing and to create attention among the guests. It was not something we had expected from the beginning and we were pleasantly surprised. Just something like being able to get the robot to the tables to sing a birthday song is very much appreciated by the guests and builds our brand,” says Vincent Ruckman, District Manager Rosegarden.
In addition to serving robots, they have also invested in cleaning machines in the form of i-mop, this on the recommendation of another Rosegarden restaurant that tested i-mop and which Vincent then heard about. As Rosegarden themselves clean the kitchen and restaurant part of their units, the requirement was a smart and easy-to-maintain machine that works on many floor types and both small and large surfaces. Previously, they cleaned more manually with a mop and cleaning cart, but with the i-mop it goes much faster and the result is both better and more even. It no longer matters who is cleaning and how thorough that person is with mopping, the result is the same every time. Then the staff now have more time and energy to take care of the guests and perform other more important tasks.
"i-mop can reach almost all surfaces, but we clean the tightest ones by hand, but that's not a problem for us. The machine is easy to handle and easy for the staff to look after and maintain. Previously we had a machine that was big and clumsy and impractical to fill and empty, now we have found our way of working and the staff has learned the machines and how to use them in the best way" says Vincent Ruckman, district manager Rosegarden.
The introduction was managed by OrboTech's machine expert, where Rosegarden's staff received training in how the machines work and where they then tested their way together to find the best approaches and routines for these particular restaurants. During the test, the results were followed up and afterwards an evaluation was made in which the staff were involved and both pros and cons were taken into account before deciding to invest in the machines. Something that has been especially appreciated is the functional agreement included with the machines. It includes free service and free spare parts should something unforeseen happen, which together with the high level of service creates even greater security.
"We had a very good contact person and were given a trial period with training and time to try and use the machines in different ways. After a couple of weeks, we got together in the staff and everyone thought that this is something we just have to have in the restaurants," says Vincent Ruckman, district manager Rosegarden.
"Having helped Vincent and Rosegarden has really been a fun experience! It has been inspiring to meet such a wonderful team and share in their vision, something I have done everything to be able to realize. But as is often the case when an idea meets reality, you sometimes have to compromise and find other solutions, and I would say that is our forte as a machine and robot supplier. We like challenges and presenting smart solutions to our customers!” says Emil Trusell, robot and machine expert OrboTech Sweden.
