Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) approves our climate goals

We are proud to announce that our climate targets have been officially endorsed by the global initiative - Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). We will now focus on reducing our footprint and we now encourage others to follow suit and set their own targets.

The approval has been made through SBTi's validation process and means that the company has formally committed to measuring, reporting and monitoring its emissions in a transparent manner.

OrboTech's validated goals, formulated after SBTi: 

“This target was approved through a simplified target validation process exclusive to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). OrboTech Sweden AB commits to reduce its absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 60% by 2030, with 2020 as the base year, and to measure and reduce its Scope 3 emissions.” 

This shows that the company is strategically working on the environmental issue and has had its set goals tested and approved by one of the most established players in the field. It will be a compass in the long-term sustainability work, and a signal to partners and customers that the work is done on a scientific basis, as well as a call for other players in the value chain to set their own goals. For OrboTech, this will primarily mean measures to reduce emissions linked to its own vehicle fleet and shipping of goods, as well as the operation of sales offices and service workshops.

OrboTech Sweden AB will now continue its systematic work to achieve the goals, and annually report its progress according to SBTi's communication standard. The report will be published on www.orbotech.seIn the long term, sister company Johans Städmaskiner AB will also apply a similar method and work to have its goals validated in the same way.

SBTi is a global partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI) and WWF. The organization reviews and approves companies’ and organizations’ climate targets based on the latest climate science and what is necessary to limit global warming to 1,5°C.
